I spent my career on the commercial side of aerospace and defense — close to the small and mid-sized contractors that everything upstream depends on. The pattern was always the same. And the software built to help them was either priced for companies ten times their size, or didn't fit how they actually work.
I watched a manufacturer try to bolt a general-purpose AI tool onto that problem. It didn't stick. Not because the idea was wrong, but because it didn't understand the business — it was a smart assistant with no memory of how this operation actually ran. That's when it clicked.
